Piroschka’s

In 2010 the sisters Inge and Jutta from Piroschka’s Kitchen started trading at the Neighbourgoods Market and introduced Piroschka´s Flammkuchen aka Tarte Flambée to South Africa. The idea was born out of necessity when the sisters took two orphan boys from the township Khayelitsha into their lives and sent them to private schools. They struggled with the high costs of schooling, so they imported special ovens from Germany and started their “traveling kitchen”, although the sisters had different jobs (Jutta is an architect and Inge was manager of a German Chemical firm).

The amazing success of Flammkuchen sales enabled Jutta and Inge to finance the boy’s lives and support them up to today. Flammkuchen originates from the French-German wine region, Alsace Lorraine.

THE favourite dish in Germany and France is served with a good glass of wine or beer in the best restaurants, at food markets, and festivals. The thin yeast-free Flammkuchen base has a high content of rye flour, gets coated with Crème Fraiche and different toppings, and baked in a special oven at 350 degrees. Piroschka´s is serving a variety of the Flammkuchen at the Neighbourgoods Market, from the Classic Ham to Vegetarian and even the Cape Town´s favourite Breakfast-Flammkuchen!
