“I used to love driving around with my daddy. He always had some new and unusual words that I’d never heard anyone say before. And so I learned the art of swearing, and I absolutely loved it! I used all my newfound words on my sisters while bicycling around our little yard. My sisters told on me, and the result was getting my mouth washed out with soap by my granny. Not pleasant. Chilies quickly became the preferred method, but I soon began to enjoy the raw fresh chilies. Weird. I know. My great grandmother and granny decided that punishment best suited for my foul mouth was kitchen duties.

I began to enjoy this time in the kitchen and soon had very little time to bicycle with my sisters and swear at them. My swearing phase passed quickly. Or did it? Fuck knows? I was way too busy.

Eagerly learning many old recipes that had been passed down for generations. My grandfather was always in the kitchen too. He was always there cooking with them, and making them tea and sandwiches. I always enjoyed helping him make his vegan curry. I grew fond of my time with the oldies. Chopping. Cleaning. Stirring. Beating. Flipping. Watching. And so I learned a great deal.

My mommy's home was always open to many functions over our growing years and every family member wanted to have their special occasion at my parent's home. I always enjoyed preparing all the different kinds of food and laying out a feast for the guests! I learned a great deal from my beloved mommy too. So what started as punishment for my potty mouth, I became a student in the best 'School of Cooking' ever... Our family kitchen.”
